What is the Law of Attraction and How to Use it

The Law of Attraction was popularized by the Netflix documentary, “The Secret” and is part of the 12 universal laws and it is stated as the ability to attract whatever we want into our lives based on our thoughts and beliefs.

Basically meaning, all of our thoughts eventually (some more quickly than others) manifest into a physical thing or situation in our lives.

Whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not, it is always working because it is law.

Just like the law of gravity, we can’t turn it on or off, although it’d be awesome if we could, it’s always working whether we want it to or not.

What is the Law of Attraction 

The Law of Attraction is pretty simple, your thoughts, if thought for long enough and consistently enough become your beliefs, those beliefs then turn into our actions which create our realities.

So, if you see a puppy and feel feelings of joy, happiness, love, etc. you will attract more experiences in your life that give you those positive, and uplifting feelings.

The same is true for people, places, and situations that elicit sadness, anger, frustration, etc.

Have you ever had one of those mornings where you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, then thought about how annoyed you were and as you’re running into work because you’re late, the sky opens up and drenches your brand new dress in hard and heavy angry raindrops?

Everything seemed to go wrong and the more you told yourself “everything was going wrong”, the worse your day got.

That my friend is the law of attraction at work.

Here’s the thing though, The Law of Attraction is greatly misunderstood because it sounds so simple, and naturally as humans we over-complicate everything.

Not only that, we tend to take this as law at face value and VERY literally.

Because it states that like attract like and whatever we focus on “good” or “bad”, we will attract more of into our lives.

That’s when we avoid negative feelings such as sadness, anger, grief, pain and push those feelings down out of the way and put on a mask of happiness.

And as the great, James Wedmore says, “what we resist, persists.”

But we’ll dig more into that in a bit.

The biggest misconception with LOA is that you can think of something and poof, it’s right in front of you.

Which is what I meant when we take it literally.

Luckily, this just isn’t the case because LOA is not the only law of the universe, in fact, there are 11 other laws at work. And probably a whole heck of a lot more than that.

These other laws (which you can read about here), make sure nothing happens instantaneously which is great in the grand scheme of things and makes The Law of Attraction a lot less “woo woo” and out there.


How to use The Law of Attraction

As I said, LOA is always working, all day, every day, but we can put a bigger focus and emphasis on it if we choose which is called, manifesting and there are three steps to manifesting our desires.




1. Ask the universe for what it is you want and then give thanks for already receiving it.

I realize this sounds kinda crazy but when we come from a feeling of gratitude for already having something, we tend to manifest it much more quickly.

Think about it like this, let’s say you asked a friend to do something for you.

They agree and you say thank you so much, I really appreciate this, and so on. You give gratitude and thanks to your friend for even agreeing to do this thing for you.

Your friend is more likely to respond positively to your energy and get that thing done for you more quickly because you were so grateful to them.

Flip that around and let’s say you were skeptical of your friend actually getting done what you asked. You were already kind of annoyed with them and impatient. On top of that, you keep asking them to do it, over and over and over.

Chances are your friend is going to wonder why you even asked for their help in the first place and will probably not end up doing the thing you asked them to do at all.

Ask once, move on.

2. Believe that what you asked for is coming to you and take the necessary action.

 You have to believe that what you asked for is coming to you no matter what.

Leap and the net will appear.

Of course, this is way easier said than done but beliefs are so important I’m diving deeper into them below and even wrote an entire post on them which you can read here.

The next step is to take action.

Yes, action is required but not just any action, inspired action.

Inspired action is action that feels good, it will get you closer to your goal and it shows your subconscious mind and the universe you’re not messing around.

If you asked for a new car, the car isn’t going to just plop into your living room.

The inspired action would be to Google the car you want, go to a dealership and drive your desired car.

Do the action that will get you closer to the feeling of having your desire as well as strengthen your beliefs that it’s possible for you to have a new car.

3. Receive your desires/manifestations by becoming the vibrational match for them.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, now I have to vibrate or whatever??

I realize this part is a bit woo, woo but trust me on this.

Everything in this universe is vibrating at a certain frequency. The frequency things are vibrating at are based on thoughts and feelings.

Our desires are at a high frequency because that’s where we put them, they make us feel good, evoke positive emotions and so on.

In order to receive your desire, you have to be on the same vibrational frequency as them.

The easiest way to do this is to embody the version of you that already has the thing you want.

How would it feel to have that new car sitting out in your driveway?

What does it feel like to have a full bank account?

And if these things have never happened to you, get into the feeling of a time when you did get exactly what you wanted because chances are, it felt pretty dang good.

That’s literally it. 

But like I said, your beliefs play the biggest role in LOA so I’m going to give you a rundown of those first, then give you some strategies you can use to help you use LOA more easily in your everyday life.


Your Beliefs & The Law of Attraction

Your life all begins with your beliefs and the beliefs begin with the subconscious mind, which cannot be tricked by a fake happy-go-lucky mask.

Here’s the kicker, if you have a belief that is in direct conflict of what you want, your actions will correlate with that belief and it will be more difficult to get what it is you want.

Let’s take money for example.

Everyone wants more money, at least most do, and based on LOA like attracts like and whatever you focus on you attract more of, so you focus on money, more money, more money, more money, I want it, I want it, I need it.

And nothing happens.


Because at the core you have a belief that money is evil, that money causes problems, divorces, sadness, hurt, pain, or a belief that you have to work 80 hours a week just to make any.

By the way, if you really want to change your beliefs around money and attract more into your life, read this.

These beliefs are created by the people we spend the most time with, our parents and are planted from the age of birth-7 years old.

Of course, beliefs are still being created well into adulthood, but we’re sponges as kids and absorb everything.

This is why stuffing those “negative”, low vibration feelings down is not helping anyone.

When you release these feelings and emotions we are then able to change the beliefs associated with them.

How do you change your beliefs?

You start asking yourself the right questions.

The first step in changing your beliefs is to identify what those beliefs actually are.

And the easiest way to do that is to take a look at your life and get very clear on what areas of your life you want to change.

Then ask yourself, what do I need to believe for this to be true?

If you think you want more money on a conscious level but your bank account has tumbleweeds blowing through it, think about the beliefs you have to have for that to be your reality.

Money is hard to make.

Money = fighting = pain = being left alone.

People that have money are not good people.

The list literally goes on and on.

Do this for all aspects of your life that you want to be changed.

The only way to change a belief is to create a new one, so once you have a list of the beliefs that are no longer serving you, switch them to the exact opposite.

Money is so easy for me to make.

The more money I have, the more I can give back to others, the more I can support my family..etc.

I am a good person and money will only amplify my goodness.

These affirmations if/when said over and over and over again, start to turn into your beliefs, and once you start truly believing these things, your feelings and actions will mirror them in your everyday life.

Games to Play to make LOA & Manifestation Less Scary

Alright, this is all well and good and frankly a ton of information.

So how do you apply The Law of Attraction and manifestation into your every day intentionally?

You play some games.

I learned to pretend life is just a big game from The Manifestation Babe herself, Kathrin Zenkina, and it has made this whole Law of Attraction thing and life in general so much more fun.

These “games” are just meant to make bringing your desires into your life more fun.

You can use all of them, none of them, it doesn’t matter, it’s up to you.

Remember, all you need to do to use the LOA to manifest your desires is to ask, believe and receive. 

1. Scripting:

Scripting is like scripting a movie script for how you want your life to look. You are playing the leading actor as yourself and you get to decide what experiences you attract into your life.

Write your script in the first person like you’re writing in your diary after what you wanted just happened.

Going back to the car example, you would start by writing, “today I went to go pick up my brand new, blank, blank, blank car, and I feel blank.”

Get very specific on how you felt picking up your car, who you were with, what they did and said, what you did after.

Literally, pretend you are writing a movie script about your perfect day, you would need to be as specific as possible.

2. Creating a Vision Board

Our brains LOVE pictures and when you look at a picture long enough your brain starts to believe it’s here so it finds evidence of that thing you want in real life.

This is where a vision board comes in.

Vision boards are simple, you find images of people, places, things, experiences you want in your life, create a digital or physical collage of these images, look at it daily and believe they’re yours.

3. Mentally Shopping

I don’t know why but I love this game and I realize how weird it sounds but your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between real and pretend.

So when you go shopping mentally you are literally pretending to buy certain items you want and your subconscious mind believes it’s true so to prove you right, your mind will find a way to bring you those items.

To do this you literally just shop with your mind.

Of course, you have to believe your buying the items and get just as excited about receiving those items as you would if you did actually buy them.

4. Make Physical space for your desire

This is a game I learned from both The Secret Book and Kathrin Zenkina’s book, Unleash your Inner Money Babe.

Mental space is important but physical space is sometimes overlooked.

If you desire a partner or significant other, the game you can play is to clear out space in your closet for where your partner would have their clothes, add an extra pillow to their side of the bed, make room for them in the bathroom, etc.

Doing this can help you really get into the mindset of believing your special person is showing up and tricks your subconscious mind into the same.
